In 1940 Golo Mann made the journey together with Alma Mahler and Franz Werfel, and Heinrich and Nelly Mann, from Vichy France to Spain, then to Portugal and, finally, to the U.S., under the guidance of Varian Fry. Biographical note: German emigre historian and librarian. Felix E. Hirsch was born and educated in Berlin. In 1933-34 he was a political editor for newspapers published by Mosse Verlag.
